Beach Blanket Film Festival

Break out the popcorn and the beach blanket, it's time to watch a movie.

The 13th annual Penticton Beach Blanket Film Festival will be happening this weekend at Okanagan Lake.

Event organizer Amanda Kells says this is one of the most unusual ways to see a movie.

“It is an amazing opportunity to view some truly amazing Canadian films against a truly spectacular backdrop, the screen sits about 25 feet off shore and is framed by the mountains and water,” says Kells.

On Friday a movie called 'Eve and the Fire Horse,' will be playing at 9 p.m. The movie on Saturday July 15th, is called 'Siblings' and the Sunday feature is called 'Water.' A selection of locally produced short films will accompany each full length feature.

Kells says they had a problem this year getting the proper scaffolding for the screen.

“Because of the construction boom in Penticton this year, we almost couldn't find a scaffold to rent,” says Kells.

Tickets are $10 each per night and can be purchased at Theo's Restaurant or the Penticton Lakeside Resort.
