S'Land Golf Course

A long debate process is nearing the end.

Summerland council voted in favour of adopting the changes to the neighbourhood plan which would allow the construction of the Summerland Hills Golf Resort to begin. The process included four public meetings where residents were able to give their opinion on the new development.

Brandenburg Properties, the California-based company that will be building the resort along with Penticton's Location's West Investments, is making an effort to address the concerns of residents. The main concerns raised at the public meetings were issues such as residential water development and community infrastructure.

The next step in the process is developing a servicing agreement with city council, which is hoped to be completed by the fall. The agreement will look at infrastructure and services required for the property.

Council voted down a part of the plan that would have forced the developers to include affordable housing in the resort.

The developers will be applying to have all of the zoning laws changed at the same time than rather phase by phase. It is estimated the project will take up to 20 years to complete.
