Pinnacles Coach Dies

A tragic loss for the Penticton Pinnacles this weekend.

Coach and player Kevin Hearne was killed in a car crash Saturday evening near Langley where he was playing in a soccer tournament.

In addition to being a much loved member of the Pinnacles Soccer Team, Hearne, 37, was an aboriginal education teacher at Princess Margaret Secondary and Skaha Lake Middle Schools.

Besides his work with the Pinnacles, Hearne was a co-head coach of the South Okanagan Youth Soccer Association, head coach of the UBC-Okanagan women's team and a member of the Sapperton Rovers soccer team, which recently won the provincial men's club championship.

It is believed that his funeral will be held in Salmo later this week.

He leaves behind a wife, Poppy, and three children, Brayden, 12, Shayla, 9, and Jaylen, 5. All the children shared their father's love of soccer.
