Egg drops and bunnies

There are plenty of activities lined up for families in the South Okanagan on the Easter long weekend.

On Saturday, children at the Easter Eggstravaganza at the Cherry Lane Shopping Centre painted eggs, got sparkling tattoos and visited with the Easter bunny, accompanied by a stilt walker.

"We do this every year as a way to give back to the community by offering fun stuff for families," said Andrea Davison, the marketing director at the Penticton mall.

The free event  also included a bouncy castle, face painting, a carnival tossing game and Easter treats for the kids

BC SPCA staff was also on hand with two bunnies, Bronco and Tulip. The pair, now up for adoption, are from an unwanted litter.

"We brought the two bunnies just to show them off a little and to raise awareness as to why bunnies aren't the best Easter gift," said Mandy Traas. "And it's good to get them exposure so hopefully we can find them homes.

They are spayed and neutered and ready for their forever home."

Meanwhile out in Naramata, there was a good turnout for the annual helicopter egg drop.

Organizers say there was a huge crowd of more than 350 kids plus parents, and everything went well.

The afternoon included a bouncy castle, tattoos, a colouring contest, a scavenger hunt and the egg drop.

The helicopter dropped ping pong balls to exchange for candy.

The Easter bunny was also on hand for photo ops.

LocoLanding is also getting ready for its seventh annual Easter Egg Hunt, which will be held on Easter Monday, April 17.

There will be an ongoing egg hunt with eggs spread throughout the park and the SS Sicamous.

There will be many activities and craft stations and a special appearance by the Easter bunny, with 100 per cent of proceeds going to the OSNS Child Development Center in Penticton.

People are asked to RSVP on their Facebook event page so they know numbers.

It will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with tickets available at the event.

The cost is a $5 donation per child.
