Car source of garage fire

A fire that destroyed a garage behind a home on Middle Bench Road, early Friday, is thought to have been started by a car parked inside.

Dave Spalding, deputy fire chief with the Penticton Fire Department, said something under the hood of the Ford sedan caught fire, and that was determined to be the origin.

Everything, including the metal structure, with tools inside, was destroyed in the blaze. Recreational vehicles parked near the garage were also heavily damaged.

There is no reason to believe the fire is suspicious in nature, Spalding said.
