Truss plant catches fire

UPDATE 8:20 p.m. 

Highway 97 is now open in both directions, 500 meters north of Oliver. 

The Oliver Daily News is reporting there was a lack in pressurized water in the area and more water would have helped to dose flames at the Alpha Truss warehouse. 

It was also reported firefighters needed to wear gas masks to fight the flames as  acrid smoke filled the area. 


UPDATE 5:15 p.m.

DriveBC is reporting Highway 97 is closed between Pontes Place and Leighton Cres due to the structure fire. A detour is available via Leighton Crescent. The estimated time of opening is 7 p.m.


Castanet is receiving reports of a fire at the Alpha Truss warehouse in Oliver.

The Oliver Fire Department is confirmed on the scene of a blaze that started just before 4 p.m.

Smoke could be seen rising from the near the warehouse, which is located on 97th Street, near Highway 97.

It’s unclear how the fire started.

Alpha Truss has been in the Okanagan for more than 20 years and serves communities such as Kelowna, Grand Forks and Wenatchee, Wash.
