Live healthy, learn how

Good health is the focus Saturday at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

The Healthy Living Fair, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be host to presenters, healthy eating sessions, entertainment, activity demonstrations and more than 60 different organizations.

Here is the lineup of the activities:

Keynote Speaker Dr. Art Hister, a regular television health commenter will present his talk 'Simple Keys to A Longer and Healthier Life' at 9:15 a.m. 

The Penticton Academy of Music will offer live entertainment by its students, and there will be several sessions on healthy eating and living, including: Lisa Kilgour, RHN from Nature's Fare Markets and Genuine Health, heart health with Jesse Colbeck, registered dietitian with Interior Health, Fermentation for Beginners with Raina Lutz, RHN from Get Bent Active Arts Society, and the ‘Okanagan Diet’: Eating Healthy & Local with Sherry Medernach, registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator from Interior Health.

There will be demonstrations from City Centre Health & Fitness, Penticton Racquet and Fitness Club, Get Bent Arts & Rec Society, tai chi, a rock workout with with Bodies on Power as well as health assessment stations with health professionals and UBCO third-year nursing students.

Health outreach nurses from Interior Health will offer confidential HIV counselling and testing. 

The YES Project will give a presentation on its Youth Engagement Strategy at 1 p.m., and there will be free hearing screening, a video on Hep C harm reduction and on the CHIP heart health program.

 

All elements of the event are free, but registration is required for the For My Health! Healthy Living Assessment Program and can be done at www.healthylivingfair.com.
