Body found near OK Falls

Update -- April 28

A police dive team spent a portion of Monday searching the Okanagan River, where a body was found on April 25.

 

 

UPDATE 2:15 P.M. SATURDAY APRIL 26:

RCMP say they are investigating after a body was recovered from the channel located on the outskirts of OK Falls yesterday morning.

On April 25 at 9:00 a.m., the Penticton RCMP received a report of male floating in the channel in OK Falls.

"The body of a 24-year-old Alberta man was recovered from the water and his death has been deemed suspicious pending the results of an autopsy to be performed early next week," said RCMP Constable Kris Clark. 

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes Unit and Penticton RCMP continue to investigate.

The man's identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating a body found in Okanagan River Friday morning.

Penticton and District Search and Rescue confirmed a body was recovered from the river south of Okanagan Falls.

Officials say they were called in to assist the coroner in the recovery at 10 a.m.

"As the event was water related, the SAR manager in charge utilized five Swiftwater Rescue technicians from Penticton and Oliver to recover a body from the river," says Randy Brown with Penticton SAR.

In all 14 SAR members from Penticton, with the assistance of Oliver Search and Rescue, OK Falls Volunteer Fire Department, BC Ambulance and RCMP, attended the scene.

No further details concerning the age or sex of the victim have been released.
