Good Night For Day

Former Alliance Party leader Stockwell Day will represent the Conservative Party in the Okanagan-Coquihalla riding in the upcoming federal election. Day won the three-way nomination contest on the first ballot Saturday, defeating Summerland Mayor Tom Johnston and former MP Jim Hart. Day received 1,070 votes, Johnston 470 and Hart picked up 140. It was Hart who stepped aside in 2000 to allow Day to take a seat in the House of Commons when he became Alliance leader. In accepting the nomination, Day invited his opponents to join him in fighting the election. Day would not say who he'll be backing for Conservative Party leader when the vote is held on the March 21-22 weekend. In the neighbouring Okanagan-Shuswap riding, incumbent MP Darrel Stinson also took the Conservative nomination with 71 per cent of the ballots cast by riding association members in Vernon. Meanwhile, Kevin Ade has been acclaimed as the Green Party candidate in Kelowna. He is an environmentalist and day-care worker.
