Driver taken to hospital following collision with deer on Hwy 97 in Oliver

Deer collision injures driver

An Oliver driver who collided with a deer on Highway 97 was taken to hospital Wednesday morning.

Around 6:30 a.m., the Oliver Fire Department responded to the single-vehicle incident at Hwy 97 and Road 11.

"It was a vehicle versus a deer, and after the impact with the deer, the driver did veer off the road," said Rob Graham, Oliver deputy fire chief.

According to responders, the driver came into contact with the retaining wall before stopping on the opposite side of the road.

"His airbags did deploy and he did require some medical attention from Oliver fire and BC ambulance," Graham added.

The driver was taken to hospital after sustaining unknown injuries.

"There was significant front-end damage to the vehicle, but no extrication was required to remove the patient," Graham said.
