
Nearly 2,000 people voted in the advance poll in Penticton last week, breaking the previous record and more than doubling the last election’s turn out.
According to Elections Penticton, 746 ballots were cast on Wednesday at City Hall and 1,147 at Cherry Lane Mall on Thursday.
The 1,893 total compares to 790 in the 2011 vote.
Voters in Penticton will elect a mayor, six city councilors and four school trustees. General voting day is Saturday, Nov. 15 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, 273 Power St.
The Local Government Act allows all citizens to vote during advance polls should they choose.
Mail ballot voting is available for voters who have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote otherwise or who expect to be away on the general and
advance voting days.
Mail ballots must be received by the Chief Election Officer before the close of voting on general voting day. Elections Penticton has the particulars on mail ballot voting.
