$5M election pledge for Rutland

Taxpayers First have promised to sink $5M into enhancements to the Rutland area if elected to Kelowna City Council.

The party, which is running a slate of five candidates in the Nov. 15 municipal election, announced Wednesday the monies would come from P4 initiatives such as the Regional District and Heritage Trail announced earlier in the campaign.

Party founder, Carol Gran, promised if all five candidates win a seat on council, "Rutland will be on the map."

Former councillor, MLA and MP, Al Horning, told the party he hopes Centennial Park will be developed into the centerpiece of Rutland within the next three years.

Gran promised the park would be completed well within the three years, and to the standards set by the people of Rutland.

"The surplus funds from the already announced P4 projects will be used to fund a variety of improvements
throughout the community," says Gran.

"One million is earmarked for the Rutland Centennial Hall Society for improvements and upgrades
to Rutland Centennial Hall. The additional $4 million will be allocated to a variety of infrastructure improvements throughout Rutland, based on input from Rutland residents."

Among those, she says, will be the upgrading or replacement of the skateboard park at Ben Lee Park. In addition to roads and sidewalk improvements.

"Rutland residents will determine other allocations of the surplus."
