TaxpayersFirst grows to five

Kelowna's newest political party has filled out its slate for the November municipal election.

TaxpayersFirst, running on a platform of four years of zero tax increases, will have five candidates running under the party banner.

Michael Gorman and Billie Aaltonen have joined the party and plan to seek a seat on City Council.

The two new candidates join party founder Carol Gran, Graeme James and Dale Olson.

All five will be in attendance at the party's first public gathering Tuesday at 7:30 at Century 21 Assurance Realty on Harvey Avenue.

Jordan Bateman, Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, will speak on the recent Ernst & Young municipal spending report.

That report suggests municipal salaries increased 38 per cent from 2001 to 2012 compared with an increase of 19 to 24 per cent for employees in the (provincial and federal) government and private sectors.
