Spend Money On Training

To the editor:

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the replay of Bertuzzi purposely punching the player from behind and then the subsequent combination of a fall and push that appeared to break the opponents neck. It's always been considered a cowardly act to hit from behind and this was certainly no different.

I can't understand why professional hockey pays it's players millions of dollars and does not appear to spend what should be mandatory, money on training them to act responsibly and fairly.

Perhaps it's a good thing that paying these unsophisticated sportsman way too much money makes it unaffordable for families or children to see this unacceptable behavior first hand.

I would be amazed if he were allowed to play at all this season. I can't imagine the civil suit that the injured player could and perhaps should launch if he suffers any permanent damage or loss of future income.
