BBQ ban in apartments

A lot of apartment fires have started from improperly discarded cigarettes but I don’t see anyone suggesting that people not be able to smoke on their balconies, so why would anyone suggest that people not be able to BBQ on them?

Instead maybe we could all just use a little common sense when using our BBQs. I would think the following safety tips would be obvious but here goes

  1. Pull the BBQ away from combustible materials before lighting it (Yes that includes most walls!)
  2. The majority of barbecue fires originate in the grease tray because it hasn’t been cleaned on a regular basis, so CLEAN IT!
  3. DoNOT leave the bbq unattended, so that if you were to have a fire (which is unlikely since we made sure the grease tray was clean in #2), you can put it out before it spreads to the deck.
  4. Just like any other propane or natural gas appliance, your BBQ does need some regular maintenance as outlined in the manual that came with it.

Happy and safe barbecuing everyone!
