Take Group Home Elsewhere

TC here again. Most of you probably think I'm pretty much against the druggies, recovering alcoholics, X-cons, rapists, murderers, drug dealers and other low life's that Kelowna seems to have such a problem with. Maybe it's because we're a smaller community or just a transient sort of town. It's really great the churches want to get involved with the recovery and special interest groups help these people who have made some seriously wrong decisions in their lives, however, why should all of us be put at risk because some bleeding hearts want to set up shop with some government money in our neighborhoods?

It's bad enough the City is bending us over on sewer costs then jack our taxes up. City planning couldn't plan a road system through a wide open cornfield without screwing it up, and then you want have a 1/2 way house added to the fracas? What in the hell goes on in this city? Why don't we get back to reality with where the city dollars are coming from. My tax dollars on my house, my tax dollars on inflated gasoline, etc, etc, etc, and then you want to let these recovery homes, 1/2 homes, group homes whatever your calling them this week setup shop in a residential area? Enough is enough. Take it somewhere else. I'd just as soon see the house burn to ground and no one hurt in the fire than have it opened in my neighborhood.

The groups that open these homes don't keep these people under lock & key. They are run by the same ones who have "overcome" their problem, or worse yet "served their debt to society." You know what? How about the City serve the debt in every recovery/group home area and zap everyone's taxes? How about bending a bit our way considering your risking out $1000 deductible on the b&e's we're going to receive. Did you know after 2 times we can't insure anymore? God forbid we get "sexual deviates" at this house, then what? Care to explain how you are going to correct this one when it goes sideways AGAIN?

T.C.
