Grade 9 Perspective

I'm a grade 9 student at Heritage Christian School, (directly across from Ben Lee) and when i see things like a home for those that are poor I'm always in full support of them. Places like the Welcome Inn and the Soup Kitchen are far too rare in Kelowna. There needs to be more places for people who need to straighten their lives out to seek help.

When I see somebody like Linda Blanke trying to stop people from helping their fellow man, it makes me sick. It makes me sick that somebody who has been blessed with a fine house, a family, financial stability, and food on the table should somehow think that their comfort and their happiness should be put above others. There are people out there living in dumpsters without any food, without any shelter, and with no jobs. These people not only lack these things that some of us take for granted, but these people sometimes lack the education to even acquire the jobs to earn the money needed to acquire them!

I want Linda Blanke, everyone that signs her petition, and everyone who reads this letter, to know that I think that shutting down the Welcome Inn is wrong. By shutting down The Welcome Inn you are casting 20 people back out into the streets! Quite frankly, there is no way you can say your a morally sound person, and be in support of such an act that would put needy people back out onto the street.

Connon York, A grade 9 Student
