To the neighbors of the new group home, in Rutland, especially Linda Blanke. You make me sick. Do you assume that every person who is homeless is a drug addict, or alcoholic? Who gave you the right to judge them before you even met them? The church group that runs the home will have a 24 hr presence to ensure that the people living there are there to get back on their feet. Why are you so against good people getting a chance to get back on their feet and have a roof over their head and try to get a job and support themselves? I live in the Rutland area very close to the home like you and I welcome it. Everyone in this town complains about the homeless problem and this church group is actually doing something about it, and you complain because you are scared they are moving in drug addicts. USE YOUR BRAINS PEOPLE! If a person who was going to take advantage and continue to do drugs, they wouldn't be able to do it in a house with 24 hr supervision. How about you shut your mouth and think how you would feel if you had to sleep on the street, forage and beg for money for food, and then you see a ray of hope that you may get a chance to live in a house again and try to get a job and support yourself, and some nosy neighbor who has never met you or never been in your situation, complains and tries to stop you from this chance.
I think if all you neighbors of the home would really stop and think, you would see that this group home could be a great thing for this city, and especially for the people that it will help. I for one welcome this group home and would love to see every city in Canada do the some thing. Give an opportunity to those who genuinely need and appreciate it, and the world will be a better place especially for those people who can hold their heads a little higher knowing they will no longer have to sleep in the cold and beg for money, but can get a job, and support themselves all because some cared enough to give them a chance!
