What a work ethic! The results of Tuesday's Game 3 in Seattle are remarkable. The Rockets deserve our cheers. They, together with the Seattle
Thunderbirds, the Kootenay Ice, and the other WHL teams, have raised the
level of junior hockey to new heights in Western Canada - a position that
can be the envy of all other Western Canadian amateur sports teams and
leagues.
It is unfortunate that all the hard work they have done in Seattle can be
undone in an instant by a group of officials that is clearly two or three
levels below the Rockets when it comes to professionalism. The likes of Mr.
McLean, Mr. Smith., and Mr. Matsouka are out of their league. Their style
and quality of officiating would perhaps suffice in a pee-wee or midget
house league, but not at all in WHL playoffs.
If we ever hope to move our level of play up to the level of the OHL or the
QMJHL, we need to recognize that the move will necessitate the recruiting of
competent and professional officials.
Go Rockets, Go!
