On an older, but still pertinent issue of dog poop, I have this to say. My family recently moved to the Scotty Creek area of Kelowna. This was quite lovely for me as I grew up in the Old Vernon Rd in the early 80's, and all of my school friends lived in the subdivision at the top of the hill. It has always been a well kept and friendly family neighborhood, and still is....apart from one disgusting problem, DOG POOP EVERYWHERE!
When we first moved in, I was very busy all day and was only able to get out to walk my dog after dark. This was a blessing I soon discovered, as walking him during daylight hours became a silly version of "Tip-toe thru the Turd Piles"!! As the owner of a large dog myself I am very aware that the physical act of scooping poop with your hand only usually protected by a mere layer of shopping bag plastic, can be less than fun. TOO BAD!
This is the reason us dog owners are getting such a bad wrap. No wonder the City isn't jumping all over new dog park creation....we can't seem to even be bothered to clean it up in our own front yards. There is an Elementary school in my subdivision, on my recent walk I counted 28 "piles" directly in front of the surrounding fence. Keep your eyes open and watch these dog walkers.....offer them a bag when they begin to walk away after their dog has left a deposit!!
