Pro-rating the Olympics

Canada is in 13th position when it comes to medals. Is this good or bad?

To me, the Olympics seem to be way over rated and they hardly ever finish without a problem or scandal one way or another.

However, in most cases it's a matter of split-seconds between Gold and nothing at all. Which means if you don't have that once in a lifetime super day at the right time and at the right place, you're out of luck.

Therefore, in my opinion a world championship is better to determine who is best.

But there is another way to look at the Olympic outcome and that is to compare the number of medals with the population of a country.

If you do that, Australia is the real winner with one medal per 628000 people. Second is Great Britain with 1 medal per 1 million, then follows Russia, Germany, Canada, South Korea and France with approx. 1 medal per 1.8 to 1.9 million.

The United states with over 100 medals has "only" one per 3 million and China with one per 15.5 million.

So, there is always another way to look at things.
