Letter: Seal Hunt Justified

To the editor:

In the news it has been reported that many wildlife groups are opposing the seal hunt that has just begun. Yes, regulations have changed and there are quota's and age limits. Further, seal fur has been banned in many countries. But lets cut to the chase. Because we harvest various species of fish, particularly salmon, we do adjust the balance of nature. As salmon is one of the main dietary sources of food for the harp seal, it only makes "uncommon sense" that the number of harp seals be reduced, to ensure that the fish stocks are kept at a sustainable level. Are all the rights groups activists vegetarians?

It is indeed a sad reflection on these groups that no consideration is given to the "big picture"
