Oliver's heroes

Isn’t it wonderful how great our volunteers are down here in the small, but spirited town of Oliver.

As previously reported, there was a grass fire around 3:30 p.m., Wednesday June 20, and this may have been a problem if not for our great volunteers!

Our brave little volunteers rush out of whatever they may be doing, whether relaxing or even sleeping, they, as I like to call it “drop and go,” where they drop anything and everything to go to the rescue.

But, sometimes work tags along for the ride! Not only are we fortunate enough to have so many heroic men on our fire department, our town is very lucky to have many understanding and generous employers who encourage their “firefighter” employees to go when the call comes in.

Great examples of this could have been seen Wednesday, where a school bus (not full of kids mind you), a Marcel & Son dump Truck, a Mantel Mechanical van, and even an Argon Electrical vehicle were parked outside the fire hall.

The school bus was driven by Pat Somerville, the dump truck by Jason Schaffer, the Mantel Mechanical van was driven by Andrew Mason, and the Argon Electrical vehicle was driven by Earl Streeter.
