OCP compliance MIA

Municipal governments in the Okanagan valley have one thing in common; they have adopted an incredible disrespect for planning, and have consistently defied the intent of the Official Community Plan (OCP).

No sooner has an OCP been through a long, gruelling and costly review and adoption process, and it is being bulldozed over. Hardly a development permit is being issued without re-zoning and amendments to the OCP.

The intent of the OCP is to provide stability and predictability to the land use and development of our communities.

In reality the OCP is treated with contempt by our politicians and serves as an insult to the citizens whose interests it was intended to protect and as an obstacle course to developers.

In an attempt to obfuscate the intent of the OCP, the city of Kelowna’s planning department is now being referred to as the “Department of Sustainability.”

Considering that Milroy’s close association with the city of Kelowna includes an $800,000.00 investment in the city’s planning department, would it not be more appropriate to refer to it as “The Milroy Express”.

Selecting Westcorp’s marina proposal produces very poor optics, to say the least.
