Is Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson out of step by commenting on the NHL strike and the Stanley Cup?
In actual fact it is the Gov General's responsibility to ensure her predecessor's gift, Lord Stanley, be committed in a manner it was intended, amateur hockey.
I am to understand this choice was given to a committee in 1947 by the Gov General which has not been on the forefront of recent history. She has every right to award the cup in the manner it was intended.
I think women's hockey is an excellent choice since current NHL players and owners both are bargaining in bad faith on the heart and sole of Canada's sport.
