Youth Offenders Act

It sounds like maybe you are not raising teens in this generation. I would
like you to maybe research before you open your big mouth and say that
parents need to pay for their child's behavior problems. I don't think you
realize that a parents hands are tied when it comes to helping their kids in
Canada. The Youth Offenders Act is a joke, protecting the children who can
go out and commit murder knowing full well that they will be free and clear
when they turn 18.

Then you have teens (like the ones causing all the trouble in downtown
Kelowna) that are involved in drugs, (and today's drugs are different then
they were 20 years ago), they can't be forced to get help, if you send them
to a treatment center, they have the right to walk out whenever they want.

If you call the police they just say it is a family issue and they can't
help, even if they break the law, they are let back out on the streets
within hours because they are minors. All these teens know that there isn't
a damn thing a parent can do. Trust me, until the law changes and parents
have the right to force their teens into treatment or into jail, then we
will continue to see the violence and disrespectfulness downtown.

It is these teens who need to pay for their choices not the parents and the police need to be given the right to take harsher steps with derelict teens. Change the Youth Offenders so that parents have the right to take control of the child's life before it is to late.

So before you stick your foot in your mouth remember there are parents out
there that want to help their kids but can't because the law says they
can't.

S.M.
