Our beautiful city, Kelowna, has and continues to grow at an increasing rate and along with it, traffic increases and our roads are more congested.
I am a delivery driver part time and drive a lot for personal and leisure purposes. I am writing to inform readers of how frustrated I become with so many drivers out on the road today, and perhaps they do too.
I call them "idiots", somewhat jokingly, but where did some people learn to drive? There are so many things that drivers do that add to traffic problems and congestion when if they really knew the rules of the road, traffic could flow with less frustration, and be safer.
There are many who are aware and courteous. I commend them.
Many lives are lost on our roads needlessly, because of reckless drivers. I lost my husband as a very young bride to a speeding driver. I, too, have been hit by a speeding driver and now suffer needless chronic pain that makes my life much less enjoyable than it should be.
I would like to make readers aware of my few pet peeves. If they could incorporate small changes into their "rules of the road" it would help our traffic flow better, cut down on frustration and fender benders, and save lives.
Firstly, why must people get mad at me for doing the speed limit? Just because the road is not central, or is long and straight, does not mean you HAVE TO speed. Benvoulin is a good example. Speed limits are posted for a reason.
Secondly, why do people not signal when turning or changing lanes? Vehicles are equipped with signal lights for a reason, use them.
Why do people block roads when traffic is not moving or moving very slow, inhibiting drivers from turning if they have to? Blocking yet more traffic. When making a right hand turn, are you not supposed to turn into the right hand lane and then signal if you want to change lanes?
So many turn the corner and immediately race into the left lane, Why? If I am in front of these drivers, I can't safely change lanes now until they have gone past me, when they were just behind me.
I don't know which one of these things bother me the most, cause they all do. I have no idea what can be done to alleviate these stupid driving habits, along with others but I wish there was something, because it is so obvious that these people do NOT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE, and it drives me nuts.
I highly doubt this letter will change anything, but thanks for listening and safe driving.
