So much for the Christmas spirit in our wonderful City of Kelowna. We may have the best of the best but somewhere along the way we seem to have lost compassion. It is really sad that so many of us think that this sort of stuff could never happen to me because my family is perfect – my kids are perfect and an accident like that could never happen to us. I think a lot of you need an eye opener – your children are not as innocent as you think – no matter where you live in this fine city of ours. A lot of our children have done stupid things but they just weren’t made public. Does that make them okay? If we all admitted/accepted our childrens mistakes we would all be in counseling.
Frankly I am quite surprised at the response for this family given what Kelowna has recently gone thru in the 2003 fire. A lot of us know what it is like to lose or almost lose everything you own. At least we had the opportunity to take our most precious belongings. This family couldn’t.
Whatever the reason is that you lose your home/belongings to a fire the feeling of devastation is the same and these girls probably feel 10 times worse. If you think they haven’t learned a lesson you are sadly mistaken. The guilt they are feeling must be phenomenal. After all their mistake has consumed their Christmas but that doesn’t mean they can’t be forgiven. I believe everything happens for a reason. Maybe this needed to happen so they see the value of life and appreciate what they do have more and they can see the true love and compassion that people can have for one another especially at Christmas. Maybe it happened to bring this family closer together.
What ever the reason, let’s not make this an horrific experience because we could not find the compassion in our hearts for them and let them know everything is going to be okay. (My message for the family – don’t let someone’s else’s heartlessness ruin your Christmas – things will get better, and don’t let this accident rule your life because of what other people say.)
So when you go to Church this Christmas – maybe you can say a prayer for them. And for those of you with little compassion and bitterness in your heart – I will say a prayer for you too. Merry Christmas and may God Bless You!
