Whose interests protected?
The Kelowna Springs Golf Course issue should really boil down to only two items of consideration from the city’s point of view.
First, the preservation of the property for current and future water management issues to save ourselves millions later that would result if half the course’s reservoir were to be lost to industrial use.
The second is preserving the entire golf course for those (albeit mostly seniors, who besides golfing, love to vote) who appreciate it for its walkability and affordability.
It shouldn’t matter what kind or how many creative uses of the property the owners come up with. The bottom line is the zoning should not be changed.
The best solution for all involved would be to sell the property to the city. For the city, it will be an unbelievably precious and enduring asset.
Who are senior city management, the mayor and councillors looking out for, the development community or taxpaying residents?
(To the mayor and councillors,) your constituents will be watching.
Dave Erikson, Kelowna
