Who Decides?

In reply to A.S., do you not think these girls are embarrassed and feeling really bad already without you slamming their character?

I personally know these girls are fine upstanding young girls, as my son attended school with them last year, and is still friends with them. It is hard as parents these days whether you are a single parent or not. You hear little about RCMP busting people for selling smokes to kids, but have you ever seen an RCMP approach a child while they were smoking and say or do anything? NO? I didn't think so. It is against the law to sell smokes to kids, but I have yet to see the law that says it is against the law for them to smoke.

Also I would like to know how you determine who is worthy of a fund as you put it? Is this family just supposed to suck it up and say no thanks, it was the fault of the children so we will start over all on our own? Would your feelings be different had it been mom smoking and she was the one that left the smoke unattended? Then would they be worthy?

As for the landlord, Yes I feel bad for him, he does have insurance and will be compensated. These are the risks you take as a landlord. I owned a house in Kelowna last year and I had renters living in my basement. Who do you think paid for the repairs to the cigarette burns these Adults left in my carpets?

Children are exactly that. CHILDREN. We cannot be with them 24 hrs a day and hold their hands for each and every decision they make, but we can be there to console them and reassure them when they make tragic mistakes like this one. As the mother of 2 grown adult boys, 2 teenagers and 2 pre-teens I feel for all parents in times like these as this could very well have been anyone's child.
