RE:Sick of location of Apple Triathlon
I am writing to reply to Raeanna Sali’s letter regarding the Apple Triathlon. We are aware of and do regret any inconvenience that is incurred by any individual in our community. We spend many hours planning how this can be minimized and have sent out approximately 11,000 letters outlining detours and including maps to fully show how people can get around with minimal delay.
We recognize that with all community events there are inconveniences suffered by some for the benefit of the community as a whole. The Apple Triathlon takes an estimated 8-10,000 hours to organize and this time is provided entirely by volunteers with a view to benefiting their community. Their sacrifice is rewarded by international exposure of our city and an estimated $9 – $12,000,000 in economic benefit this year alone, provided by over 1,800 participants.
It also has an impact on adults and children alike who are influenced to live an active healthy lifestyle, by the likes of our Olympic Medalist Simon Whitfield and many others who come to our city to participate.
