Concern with cut trees

Over the Easter weekend, members of the Lakehouse development along the northern part of Trout Creek on Okanagan Lake (in Summerland) cut down more than 40 trees in an area which should have been protected under restrictive covenants with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, claiming they were an “invasive species.”

Looking at pictures that were sent to municipal officers, the mayor and councillors, the openings left by the trees that were removed seem somehow to align with the lower windows of the development residents.

It appears that the development officers went to the expense of finding a biologist who would agree those trees were invasive, even though the trees were probably there long before most people living in that area.

It is this same developer that (wanted) council to allow it to build a massive boat dock with 80 slips protruding far into the lake for residents in that development.

One of the pictures shows a houseboat anchored just offshore. Can we expect a cascade of boats anchoring there in the future? That would mean an access clearing would have to be built, with more trees being removed.

When will this end?

Frank Martens, Summerland
