Feels Alberta has all cards

If I had to sum up Alberta in confederation in one phrase, in would be “taxation without representation.”

The federal government under the Liberals has no interest in allowing Alberta to prosper and to recognize its unique culture. Albertans are a very hard-working and prosperous people who respect law and order, self-determination, hard work and wide open spaces.

Over the past 10 years, the federal (government) has done everything it can to shut down Alberta’s industries. For example, Bill C69, the “no pipelines” bill, C48, the “tanker ban,” Quebec’s veto of Energy East, emission caps, banning coal power, banning LNG power, ridiculous gun legislation that protects ducks from hunters, EV mandates and fertilizer restrictions. Those regulations are designed to choke Alberta’s industry, plain and simple.

Albertans have contributed more than $750 billion to other provinces in equalization payments, $50 billion a year, while those eastern provinces simultaneously refuse to allow oil growth and show any gratitude.

I agree with a letter writer's statement that it would take a few years to get the logistics and administrative aspects sorted away, but that’s a lot better than four more years of Ottawa putting its jackboot on Alberta industry.

Alberta would do what’s in Alberta’s best interest—provide safe communities absent from government-enabled junkies, gun laws and “castle doctrine” so Albertans can legally defend themselves and their property, no more GST would mean zero sales tax and healthcare that provides actual care rather than being out on a waiting list.

The creation of a commodity based currency (would mean) central bankers can’t print money indiscriminately. Most importantly it would mean “drill baby drill.”

Alberta has the potential to be one of the wealthiest jurisdictions on earth and is already the wealthiest jurisdiction in Canada, despite the Liberals best efforts. For example, GDP per person in Alberta is 80k vs 55k in the rest Canada.

As far as trade goes, Alberta has the leverage. If other provinces don’t allow pipelines, Alberta could cut off fuel and LNG to the entire country. Alberta could also isolate B.C. by shutting down west-east trade.

Albertans are sick and tired of being taken advantage of, and sick and tired of being demonized for producing the energy everyone on earth uses each and every day.
