Isolationism won't help
A few weeks ago, I received a Member of Parliament letter from (then Kelowna-Lake Country MP and now Kelowna Conservative candidate) Tracy Gray.
On one side of the letter were the many things she and the Conservative Party hope to accomplish and fight for in Ottawa. On the other side it was proclaimed in big, bold letters, "Canada First. Canada Only."
That bothered me.
Canada has a long history of being a peacekeeper in the world. We welcome refugees. We help impoverished nations. But now, when we're starting to fight a trade war with the United States – a country with 10 times our population and 15 times our GDP – the Conservative Party approach is that Canada should fight it out alone. Isolationism will not make Canada stronger.
