Mayor should keep promise

Re: Bob Petty's letter, Expropriate if necessary (Castanet, March 24)

The vote to expropriate Kelowna Springs Golf Course should have been the first item of council business in January.

(Then mayoral candidate and now Kelowna Mayor) Tom Dyas said he would fight to save Kelowna Springs in July 2022.

Under local government expropriation powers, municipalities and regional districts have the power to expropriate real property or works for the purposes of performing their powers, duties and functions. Also, expropriation powers allow local governments to purchase property at market value without the consent of the owner. Local governments can expropriate property for any purpose relating to the exercise of its powers, duties and functions.

So, why the delay Mayor Dyas?

David Buckna, Kelowna
