Most Canadians believe the trade war with the United States is the single most important issue today.
I wonder why Prime Minister Mark Carney has not approached the U.S. President Donald Trump to secure a face-to-face meeting to see if this trade war can be settled or, at the very least, avoided?
Wouldn’t that make more sense than first thing going to Europe to shake hands with France’s President Emmanuel Macron and Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer? What was that supposed to accomplish?
Was there a plan to open talks about a new trade deal? I haven’t heard anything that was accomplished other than another successful photo op.
If, as many people believe, Carney is the one to represent Canadian interests in protecting our country from assimilation with the U.S., as their 51st state, maybe a good plan might be to initiate talks with the American president rather than hiding in Europe.
