I am not against property taxes but I am against property taxes that have not been properly justified.
After last year’s significant tax increase, city councillors, Saria, Karpuk, Hall, Bass, Bepple, Middleton, Neustaeter and O’Rielly should have called for a complete review of city’s expenses. But, there was not a not a peek from the spend-and-tax Kamloops city council.
So, there’s another 9% increase in property taxes for 2025, on top of long-term borrowing debt of $275 million. It has been quite a year of huge spending during these uncertain times.
It looks like the city administration has a giant rubber stamp for our elected representatives to use for giving the go-ahead to spend and spend.
Let’s hope (councillors) call for justification of all spending for the 2026 city budget.
I am not holding my breath for that.
