RE: Okanagan facing summer water shortage
Granted we have had a mild winter and the snow packs are not what they should be but it is mid March and already they are raising the alarm of water shortages this summer.
I have lived in Kelowna for 30 years and have seen unchecked growth to the detriment of the infrastructure struggling to keep up. As the populations rises so does the demand for water. We do not have an unlimited supply and we must protect what we have to serve everyone. This is why I am so glad to see the major highrise development for the downtown area stopped. We must must always consider where all the new people are going to get their water from and do we have enough. I have seen water restrictions every year for the past 10 years and that is even with heavy snowfall years. We have to restrict growth if we want to have enough water for everyone.
