I view the 30-day “reprieve” (on U.S. tariffs) as a somewhat positive short-term outcome.
However, it is a boon for the Liberal government. Standing up to Trump has given it a lot of positive media attention. (Prime Minister) Justin Trudeau has been able to make heroic speeches on television.
Canadians should not be fooled. They should not forget that Canada’s weakened position, because its economy is almost totally reliant on trade with the U.S., rests mainly with Trudeau and his anti-energy policies.
He and his government have consistently blocked Canada’s ability to export our natural resource's to markets other than the U.S. An example is the refusal to sell LNG to our European allies.
The Conservatives seven-point plan provides a common sense way forward for Canada. It will build a stronger but less reliant relationship with the U.S., while providing the infrastructure needed to market Canadian products and resources to a wider off shore market.
