Placement Of Dispensing Machines

With regard to the article on parking meters, I would like to comment that it is not a new idea and works very successfully in areas of Toronto. When I was there in 2000, there was just ONE in the middle of each block. The vehicles were parallel parked and so the number of vehicles per block was less, but no one had a problem walking to the middle of the block to purchase the ticket and return to their own car to place it.

Before purchasing large numbers, I think it would indeed be prudent to
plan where they will be placed. If two are placed per block, then placing them 1/3 and 2/3 of the way on each block would allow the side streets which have shorter blocks to get by with one a fair distance from the main north/south street(perhaps in the middle of those blocks). I personally like the system.

On a side note, September 8, 2004, 4 of 11 meters that I put coins in
while working around downtown Kelowna took money and gave no time. I returned to my car and found a ticket on the last one and protested to
the traffic office on Lawrence. Their comment "You should have called
us"....I don't have a cell phone and it sure isn't my responsibility to
pay to phone them also.

They canceled the ticket......for which I thank them. I walked out, stepped off the curb by the pole and meter and sprained my ankle very badly (still not healed).......There is a recessed grill right outside that office with a parking line painted right through it so it is not distinguished and almost impossible to miss as it is between the car slots. . .

I would think Kelowna should be looking out for these types of hazards
as well.

Just some thoughts. . .

G.T.
