Family Comes First

I would like to say that I agree with Tammy on putting her family first is one top priority that a lot of people have put to the wayside.

Being a single mother of two children and recently entering the Health Care system for a career, I am on call with two facilities and I am the one who determines the days in which I work.

School functions that are important to my children I book off. The Pro-D days and any Stat holidays I do not ship my kids off to daycare, I take those days off to stay at home. The times my children are with the other parent, I work hard and book all the possible times to work.

We are the adults and we as adults are the ones that choose to have children. My kids come first. We as a family do not have all the material things in our home, for example, computer, video games, or cable with all the extras. My children do not go without clean clothes, good healthy food, or a warm bed to sleep in. My children will not be able to have a cell phone handed to them and they have to do chores to earn an allowance.

Myself, as a single mother, have to work and I realize there are many people who do, but we as a society put to much influence on the material things in life. My children, I hope will learn there is more to life than brand names and to look inside of other people to see a person for who they are not what they have.

Here is to not opening on more holidays and letting families spend time together on those days that they do not have to work. Maybe to bring all families together we should lobby the government to have a family day and open all pools, skating rinks, or community recreation areas for that day free to all families that join to enjoy the time together.
