I looked at my latest natural gas bill. I paid $9.37 for the gas and $13.60 for the carbon tax.
The other $46.48 was for various fees, including transportation and delivery that likely are also being charged a premium for the carbon tax.
It appears I’m paying close to a 50% surcharge on my gas purchase alone. I’m told I’m paying 17 cents on a litre on gasoline, or about 10%. None of that seems right.
It looks like they not only jacked up the price of natural gas significantly with the carbon tax but I’m likely being double- and triple-billed carbon tax, as that natural gas purchase is finding its way to my house.
Even delivered to my house, I’m paying about a 25% surcharge with the carbon tax and natural effluent has a much lower environmental impact than a gasoline-powered engine at a 10% tax surcharge. What gives?
