Naive About Unions

In response to RDWs Wave goodbye to Unions letter, he says he is a business owner. I wonder if he offers his employees any kind of pension plan, medical and dental benefits or job security.

Unions are not just there to provide great wages they are there to establish benefits and security to employees. It would not take long for employers to roll back wages and discontinue benefits if the union protection was not in place.

With the anti-union government we now have in place I am sure legislation would be passed that would allow companies to go back to the abuse of employees that existed prior to unions.

Everybody in the workforce union or non should think long and hard about what would happen if the unions were not there. Without the possibility of a union coming into a non-union workplace would the non-union employee have the wages or benefits that they get.

And RDW mentioned the Labor Regulations and The Employees Standards Act, well these did not exist until there were unions and would definitely have changes made to them or be erased totally through legislation if Unions did not exist and then we would be right back to the fifties working for peanuts with no benefits and wishing we could form a union.

Do not be so naive.

L.N.
