Whatever happened to Western Star Trucks? Well let me tell you as I was affiliated with Western Star. Unions can be a very good thing as without them, we would all be working for minimum wage but.....unions can shut down a company. That is exactly what happened to Western Star Trucks! When a forklift operator is making in excess of $22/hr and the wage goes up from there, not to mention all the sub-contractors that Western Star had drove the prices way up for parts etc. A union is exactly what killed the Western Star Truck Plant in Kelowna. It obviously became much cheaper to build the trucks in the States instead of here.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that unions can be a good thing in some instances but they can also kill a company. Those unions think they are only looking out for their members when they are asking for more wages or top dollar for the members plus benefits sometimes bite off more than they can chew often close a company's doors for good. Now there is some food for thought.
