A storm by any other name

Re. ‘Proactive highway closure’ (Castanet, Dec. 4)

Atmospheric river?

I’m fed up with all of the word jumbles that have come at us for the last decade. Why can’t we just call it a storm, like we have since the start of time?

Why do we always have to come up with new terms that are confusing, technical and or just plain carried away, like your roof during a…storm. Is someone trying to justify their job somewhere?

What are they going to call earthquakes? Vibrational incidents?

Hold on tight Dorothy, there’s a “spiral spinning event” coming to take you and Toto away.

None of these ridiculous terms will ever change the fact that you need to batten down the hatches, because a storm’s a comin’!
