This whole issue of trying to ban ATV's from the KVR is very frustrating because it is being pushed mainly by the misinformed, selfish, hypocritical and greedy. People should be more tolerant of the fact that there are those who like to ride ATV's and those who prefer walking.
Many ATVers like walking too but I for one ride to get to remote areas otherwise not possible without a 10 day hike, take in awesome views and enjoy the various streams and lakes you can get to only by ATV AFTER having gone onto the KVR. Someone asked the other day "what's next", will ATVers want to declare the Greenway as theirs to ride ATV's on?
It shows the ignorance and stupidity of people like this. I doubt most ATVers would want to use the greenway since we ride for the purposes mentioned above. We understand that the Greenway was built for walkers, while it's obvious that those who are trying to take away our right to use the KVR don't understand that the KVR, standing for the Kettle Valley RAILWAY was built for motorized vehicles.
The KVR spans hundreds of kilometers and trying to ban ATV's from it so some can take their 1 or 2 km walk is ludicrous. There are many negative ramifications to banning traffic from it including the fact that businesses would be hurt. For example, you can drive from Kelowna to Chute Lake lodge without having to waste time and hurt the environment by wasting gas to drive to Penticton and back up through Naramata.
It also draws tourism from around the world including for ATV tours, which would be put out of business. You misinformed whiners can't see that the issue here is someone trying to take a rail bed that's been used harmoniously for years by everyone from walkers to drivers and turn it into a walk only trail. You can't see that that's like ATVers trying to turn the Greenway into a trail for ATV use only. You can't admit that the KVR already belonged to motorized traffic long before you declared it as "your walking trail"
The KVR is not yours or mine, it's ours. It was upgraded by the tax dollars and labor of walkers and ATVers alike. And we can co-exist quite nicely as we have for decades. If the sound of an engine for 30 seconds is going to disturb you, go to one of the numerous walk only trails in the area and quit trying to take a trail that was designed for what it's being used for currently, and that belongs to all of us, and dictate how those who don't share your view should or should not be able to use it.
ATVers are not trying to ban you from a rail bed that was designed for motorized traffic but I was taught that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. So should we?
