In it for the money

Re. Packed houses at hearing (Castanet, Nov. 22)

I viewed a lot of the recent Kelowna city council public hearing hearing (about short-term rentals).

The investors owning short-term rentals were very creative in explaining why short-term rentals are good and in avoiding (saying) the real reason they support them is the money they earn.

One of the best was former city councillor Andre Blanleil, who suggested short-term rentals at (the) Discovery Bay (residential tower downtown) provide student housing for nine months and then tourist accommodation in the summer.

Most students work during the summer and still require a place to live. If, in fact, there are students living there, I certainly don’t think it is fair to them to be pushed out for the summer so the investors (owners) can line their pockets.
