I can't agree enough on the separation of male and female students in some classes. Although it is important for our children to become well rounded and experience the social part that the school system allows...this IS a great idea.
I have one child, so some may say I am not a good advocate on this subject, but I know from watching my son go through school that this would have helped him greatly. He is now in grade 12 and the "social" aspects with the classmates do cause disruptions and cause the mind to be more on the "cool" side instead of the in-tuned learning side.
Our children have so much to deal with in this day, and the most pressing is the need to feel, look and act like they belong. By separating the genders, this would allow a little more brain space for concentration on class...not the pretty girl with the belly ring and hip huggers beside them...or vice versa.
As adults...we are not ignorant of the fact that the hormones are there and raging...who needs that when you are trying to figure out what the angle of a triangle is? I think this could be a good thing..and I am interested in finding out what the studies show after this is given a chance.
Mom of a normal hormonal boy.
