There are actually 2 sides of the coin in regards to the City’s late payment interest issue. While I give hats off to the person/s who actually stood their ground with this issue and had success with their efforts, I can only assume that since the city will now lose $200,000.00 revenue per year, our taxes will now increase.
Although I can understand that they have to recover this loss somehow it is unfortunate that those of us who do not use the City’s utilities will have to pay the price also.
A lot of questions have not been answered here and they need to be addressed. Now does this decision set precedence over all utility companies or just the municipalities? What does this outline for us “other” utility customers? Are we going to be the ones who suffer the most and have to pay twice – once on our bills if they are not paid on time (because the time allotted for payment is only about a week), and then again on our taxes? Also is this going to be retroactive?
It is really sad that we the consumers suffer once again because someone did not do their homework or thought they could pull the wool over our eyes. At least there are some people out there who are willing to go the limit for the rest of us.
