It was with alarm and heartbreak for our local wildlife that I saw the new owners of the Wildwood property in South East Kelowna, where I had lived for many years, unnecessarily remove an ancient and healthy Douglas Fir tree.
Towering high above our community, that majestic giant was home to a wide variety of wildlife and functioned as a carbon sink in our climatically erratic world.
Perhaps a swimming pool or a manicured lawn will be put in place of this much-needed tree. Certainly there can be no equivalency in such an unconsidered choice.
